Summer is here and it's Time to Prepare

Thursday, June 14, 2007

Welp, it's getting to that time again -- summer break. Don't worry though. Just because school is out, doesn't mean you have to stop learning. Summer is a perfect time to start preparing for the SAT, because, really, when else are you going to have so much time on your hands?

Again the question is, "Should I sign up for an SAT/ACT preparation course or should I study on my own?" We always recommend students to study on their own. If they find that it's not working, then sure, go pay for some motivation. Just remember that all you are paying for is that motivation. You can buy ALL of the study materials that you get from a course at your local book store (or eBay... or Amazon). No "secrets" or special practice materials.

"OK, where do I start then?" I'm glad you asked that question. Go out and buy the books by Kaplan, Arco, Barron's, and/or Princeton Review. They're all going to teach you similar techniques, but all of the books have useful practice tests and questions. You can usually find books for under five bucks if you buy them on eBay.

StudyBeans also has a lot of tips and strategies for free. Start with the study guide, and work your way out from there.

So as school breaks, SAT/ACT test prepration begins. Your score isn't going to improve on its own. Have fun!
