College Survival Tips
For many new college students, adjusting to the new atmosphere academically (and socially) can be difficult. Here are a few college survival tips.
1) Get enough sleep.
Finally on your own, it's tempting to stay up all night socializing and partying. Go ahead and live it up, but don't stay up all night every night. Your body can only take so much abuse. Deprive yourself of sleep too often and eventually your body will shut down. It's also A LOT more difficult to concentrate when you haven't had a good night's rest. If you don't believe me, give it a try.
2) Don't procrastinate.
So common, yet so easy to fix. Do your assignments on time, and keep up with readings. If you do your work on time, a little bit each day (instead of staying of 2 nights in a row to finish some paper), you'll be less stressed and earn higher grades.
3) Go to office hours.
If you have questions, go to office hours. Your professors might seem intimidating at first, but you'll soon realize that they're people to, and they're usually glad to help.
4) Find what you enjoy.
Pick a field of study that you enjoy and not for the money or because everyone else is doing it. Find the field of study that you have fun with, and in turn, classes won't seem so boring.
5) Don't study too much.
Studying is all well and good, but do it with moderation. There's no need to be studying every waking minute. Take breaks, go exercise, have dinner with friends, or join a club. College is a time to learn, but it's also a time to meet people and build relationships that will last a lifetime.
