Free GRE Reading Material Now Available
The New York Times recently did away with their silly Time Select premium program. Why does this matter to GRE preppers? The amount of reading material to help you prepare for the GRE has just increased by a very large amount all for free!
StudyBeans has always been a promoter of "improve your vocabulary with reading." Learning vocabulary in context offers several advantages:
- You will remember the words better.
- Reading will help your critical reading skills.
- It's not as boring as learning from a list.
GRE reading comprehension passages are very similar in difficulty to the articles in The Times, so if you read its articles on a regular basis, you'll get used to those in the GRE. Plus, it's all online so you'll get used to reading for a long period of time from a computer screen.
But how will reading the news improve my vocabulary skills?
Well, my friend, I'm glad you asked!
While you're reading, you're going to across words that you don't know or are unfamiliar with. Look the word up in a dictionary immediately. Now that you know the meaning, ask yourself, "How was the word used?" The more context you can add to a word, the more likely that it's going to stick in your memory. You don't get that with a vocabulary list.
So there you go. What're you waiting for? Time to start reading (and learning).
If reading isn't your thing or you've known about The Times for some time now and have been reading it already and need a change, StudyBeans has vocabulary flashcards and quizzes for your learning pleasure.
