For GRE antonyms, you are presented with a word, and you have to choose the answer choice that is the opposite of that word. There will be answer choices that are kind of the opposite, there will be synonyms, and other types of choices to get you mixed up. Just remember, you\'re looking for the EXACT OPPOSITE and you\'ll avoid a lot of the traps many test-takers fall for.

Before you look at the answer choices, read the word, and think of its exact opposite. Make a prediction. With prediction in mind, now look at the answers. Find the choice that matches your prediction the best. By predicting an answer before looking at your choices, you\'ll avoid a lot of confusion and second guessing.
When You're Not Sure of the Definition
Antonyms get pretty difficult when you don't know what the words mean. If you don't know the meanings, try to think in what context you've heard the words. If all else fails, decide if the word sounds like it implies good or bad. If the word implies good, look for a the answer that implies bad, and vice versa.

Besides doing as many practice GRE antonyms as possible, the best way to improve is by studying vocabulary. Learn as many words as you possibly can. Learning word roots will also help.
